Oct 17 - I cried as I gave Kyle his last dose of Topamax tonight. Two years and three months after we started him on Topamax he is now completely off of it. Tons of emotions rushed through my mind as I was giving him his last syringe of 0.5 ml. It brought me back to that scary time of how desperate we were when we started him on the "dangerous" oral med for a tiny premature baby whose gut might not have been mature enough to handle medications through the GI tract and Dr. Barretto's exact words were "it would kill him". He had maxed out on the highest dose of Versed which dropped his blood pressure and sky-rocketed his heart rate. We waited and took a gamble on Topamax as it was our last hope, even though we had no idea if it was going to work. Miraculously it did and Kyle never had another seizure. This is truly a great milestone and my eyes are still welling up as I type this.
