Jun 3 - Two Years Old

Jun 3rd - Kyle turned two today! Where did time go? I can't believe this little guy is two already! As happy and excited as I was, I couldn't help but remember what happened two years ago, almost hour by hour as the day went on, and sad and emotional at times while remembering Paige.

Kyle has been making great gains this month! He is now pulling up to stand on his own all the time and is now so much stronger and faster. He is cruising along furniture, and is crawling on all fours at lightning speed.

Kyle had several doctor's appointments this past month. He had his annual rapid MRI for his neurosurgery follow-up appointment. Dr. Serrano was extremely impressed with how much his brain had grown, once again! Again, the previously fluid-filled areas of his brain is now almost completely filled with brain tissue instead. The right side of his brain now looks completely normal to the naked eye (aka me!), and the left side only has a tiny spot of damage left. Kyle also had his six-month ophthalmology follow-up and Dr. Bonsall said his vision had improved a lot in the past six months. He also examined his eyes and everything looked good so Kyle does not need glasses. Kyle also had his first dentist's appointment. Because of his severe oral aversion we never brush his teeth for fear that any intrusive action would make the aversion worse or make him stop eating again, even though he has had almost a complete set of teeth for a while. We started noticing that there was a spot on one of his molars. As much as we hated to bring him to the dentist we also didn't want him to stop eating because his tooth hurt. Kyle did amazingly well at the dentist's office. He fussed a little bit when the dentist went into his mouth to take a quick 10-15 second peek. He did not cry or vomit like we thought he would (we brought like 10 towels and wash cloths just in case). But they did confirm that he has a cavity and it needs to be filled. Again, because of his aversion we don't want to just go ahead and fill it when he's awake. The dentist is going to consult with Kyle's pediatrician to come up with the best method of treatment for him. Putting him under general anesthesia will be better in the sense that he will not be traumatized by the experience and they will also be able to do a complete teeth cleaning (which is also much needed since we've never brushed his teeth and he has a lot of plaque on his teeth) and fluoride treatment. However, on the other hand, I also hate to make him go through general anesthesia just for a quick 2-3 minute procedure. We will leave it for the doctors to decide for now and see what they say.

Kyle's milk intake has become more stabilized. There are still times when he refuses an offering or takes very little but overall he is now a lot more consistent than two months ago. He has also been gaining weight (finally!!) and gaining length. He has now surpassed his all time high weight set back in August of last year. We can't wait to see more progress in all areas!!
