Aug 28th - We took Kyle to his first NICU reunion today. I have been looking forward to the reunion since the moment I stepped out of the NICU last year. I was disappointed that Kyle would show up with a NG tube but given all the progress he's made over the past year it was a still a miracle how far he's come. We saw lots of old friends - nurses, doctors, nurse practitioners, and other moms we've met when Kyle was in the NICU. Most people couldn't believe how big he's gotten and how well/healthy he looked (despite of the NG)!
Kyle is now sitting independently and he can use both hands to play with toys and raise both arms over his shoulders while sitting. He can sit by himself for more than half an hour with no issues. He is also standing much better and bearing weight much better on his legs. He is now able to stand without us supporting him and just hang on to furniture for a few minutes by himself. We are now practicing for him to get up into the standing position by himself. He has a stander at home (a demo unit) to practice standing and he's in it for 45-60 minutes a day. He enjoys watching "Super Simple Songs" while in the stander. The physical therapist is very pleased with his progress and keeps saying how much stronger he gets every time she comes (Kyle is now getting physical therapy once a week instead of once every other week).
Feeding-wise we still haven't made much progress. He took a few sips of water from an open cup on Friday during a speech therapy session but we haven't had much luck since then. Spoon feeding is still a hit or miss (misses more than hits most of the time) and very inconsistent. We keep trying different things with a variety of foods - different textures, shapes, consistency, etc. Something is gotta work!
